Helping healthcare providers find ways to use the EHR in the most effective, efficient manner not only helps providers and clinical teams feel less frustrated by the technology, but patients experience better care, too.
If you are planning to implement MEDITECH Expanse, you will want to take steps to pave the way for efficient workflows and satisfying user experiences from day one. Or, if you have already rolled out Expanse, now’s a great time to evaluate how you can help providers get more out of the powerful clinical functionality.

Save time
- Make provider access faster. Configure provider login settings so they launch directly to their main status board/worklist rather than a generic starting screen. Save providers clicks and time with each login.
Provide easy access to patient data
- Optimize ED view. For ED providers, determine if they prefer the full ED Tracker view or the streamlined ED Homepage. Set this view preference based on their role. This setting personalizes the provider view so they can find information they want as soon as they log in.
- Customize ED Results. Within the full ED Tracker, you can specify which results display under the Results/Order scroll area to highlight most relevant data. Modifying this setting will bring the needed patient information to the forefront and reduce data overload and noise.
- Enable Chart Viewer. The chart viewer feature enables splitting screens to view real-time patient data alongside the documentation workspace. If providers have two screens, they can see real-time patient information while documenting and ordering. For example, a provider may want to have one screen positioned horizontally and the other screen vertically for easier scrolling through information.
Empower customization
- Leverage widgets. Expanse widgets like "My Widget" allow providers to customize their workspace. Promote use of widgets and editing layouts to match personal preferences. Bottom line: providers will be happier when they can personalize the EMR to match their workflow instead of needing to change their workflow to match an EMR.
- Offer documentation styles. Let providers toggle between "Rapid Entry" and "Review and Refine" modes based on their documentation style and scenario. Providers really want to control how they document and this setting will give them options.
- Build narrative output. Configure documentation templates to generate narrative outputs, making it easier to articulate the patient's story.
Making your EHR better
When you look for ways to optimize your EHR for your providers, it will help encourage collaboration so that your healthcare organization can take full advantage of time-saving features. Improvements in how your clinicians use EHR technology can go far in ensuring focused patient care and safety, too.
By optimizing these types of setup options and training providers on productivity tricks, you can deliver an Expanse experience that matches your clinicians' unique needs, encourages tool adoption, and boosts satisfaction scores.
Assessing your EHR
If you’re not sure where to begin with optimizing your EHR, consider an EHR assessment from CereCore. This assessment will provide a report that can help you prioritize areas to optimize based on patient safety, return on investment, and efficiency.
